Like other states, Michigan has a very high number of employed people who are into various degrees of alcohol abuse and addiction. This becomes very difficult for the economy of the state because a lot of work hours and potential revenue is wasted due to the employees’ addiction. For that reason, the addiction treatment program in Michigan has made it possible for employers to effectively intervene in the treatment of their employees and bring them to complete recovery.

This is good from the employers’ point of view, because a recovered employee can be more fruitful to the organization. Firing an employee just because he or she is into alcoholism is not an option because they may be walking away with classified company information and in any case, the company will have to spend a lot of resources in recruiting and training a new person for the job. This allows employers to provide their employees with a stable health and mental environment with which they can discharge their duties. When participating in the intervention, the main contribution of the employers will be to convince and motivate the employee to get into a treatment program. They may do this in various ways, even by providing incentives and bonuses to these employees if they recover and get back into service.
